Shot down by Hptm August Geiger, 111./NJG1, and crashed 02.10 14th July 1943 at les Hayons (Luxembourg), 5 km NE of Bouillon, Belgium.
Those killed are buried in les Hayons Churchyard.
S/L The Hon Baird was the son of Viscount and Viscountess Stonehaven.
Sgt Odendaal came from southern Rhodesia.
The Luftwaffe report concerning this crash describes the lancaster as falling in the territory of Bertrix, some 9 km NE of les Hayons
Sgt J.E.C.Odendaal was interned in Camp 4B, PoW No.83699.
