35 and 102 Squadron
Joseph Marsh was training with 1652 Conversion Unit at Pocklington according to Edward Saywell's log book in Febuary and March of 1943.
He then went onto join 102 Squadron, where we think he flew at least 14 missions. It's actually very hard to tell because the log book dooesn't name the crew each flight, it just says, 'ops crew'.
At the end of June Saywell's crew either volunteered for 35 Squadron, or they were picked, this is one question that I hope one day to find the answer too.
Either way, they flew once on the 12 July, and again in the moring of the 13th July 1943, the night time flight would be there last.
35 Squadron
This page will be just a little about each Squadron, although I have to say that as of today, 6th April 2011, I am finding it very hard to find anyone connected to 35 Squadron... if you can help please drop me a line.
102 squadron
102 Sqdn is a different matter. I have several contacts with this Squadron one of which is of course Tom Wingham, and on the 23rd July this year I will be attending my first 102 reuninion in Pocklington.
If any one out there has information on the crew of W7820 which crashed on the night of the 4th May 1943 I would be very interested. I've made a page up here, because I was sent a newspaper clipping about a certain man's visit to Pocklington a few days later. I'm fairly sure that I have linked the right plane to the crew in the picture, but if you know differently please do let me know.
More to come on this page as I talk the other people and get a feel for what I want to say.
