Flying Officer JOHN DERMOT ALLEN, 55975

I have been asked by Dermot Allen, John's son to post the following here, after the sad passing of his father this last week.

John Dermot Allen DFC (flight Engineer, Sgt 573838 then F/O 55975) who flew all his missions bar one with the late pilot F/O Bill Rabbit in a Halifax Mk III, ‘N’ Naughty Nighties, LW142 from Pocklington.

From Dermot:
His only wish in his will is to be cremated and have his ashes scattered at what was RAF Pocklington where he flew forty seven missions with 102 squadron between May 1944 and April 1945, receiving the DFC for one of these. He very recently gave me his log log book and he is keen to find out which trip his father was awarded the DFC for? One mission has only the entry ‘Secret’, this probably involved dropping off SOE Operatives or it may have been linked to Operation Market Garden. Five other operations were obviously dropping petrol in Belgium for Mkt Garden.

Our deepest condolences go to Dermot, his family and also to Harry Brabin and Sandy Concannon who are still alive and who sadly lost touch with John after the war, they too were a part of Bill's crew.

Good night John and thank you, another 102 Ceylon Squadron hero lost but not forgotten.
For the memory of everyone who served with 102 Ceylon Squadron,
but mostly for the 1,027 in two World Wars who never came home.
Lest we never forget. http://www.102ceylonsquadron.co.uk
