Died 9th October 2014 aged 100. Known as ‘Pud’, Charles first came to the Association’s attention when he was refused entry to Leeds/Bradford Airport (formerly Yeadon) for the dedication of a memorial to his squadron. He got in eventually.

Charles came to the reunion in 2014 for the first time, turned the page of the memorial book and laid the wreath at the airfield.

His brother William Longster (Bill) Crowther (on the right) was a Flight Engineer in 102 Squadron and lost at sea on 3rd June 1942 after a raid on Essen.
They both joined C Flight 609 Squadron in September 1938 together. Charles was posted to Takoradi – Lagos West Africa in October 1941, seconded to the BOAC flying boat unit. He moved to 228 Squadron Pembroke Dock on return to the UK, then Church Fenton, before being demobilised as a Sergeant in November 1945.
