Pilot Officer Norman Arthur Beale

P/O Norman Beale died on January 23rd 2013 aged 93. He served on the squadron in Feb/May 1943 as a Wop/AG. He was part of Dave Hewlet’s crew, our President Tom Wingham was also part of this crew. The London Gazette shows he was commissioned on 19th August 1943 and awarded the DFM on 10th September 1943. DFM’s were awarded to NCOs so this medal will have been awarded this whilst Norman was still a Flight Sergeant.

Unfortunately his granddaughter has not found any records of his service with 102 (Ceylon) Squadron and I have little further information. If anyone has more details about Norman I would be grateful if they would post them here. There are a few details which can be found with a photo on Tom Wingham’s page on the 102 website:

It is hoped that the Association will be represented at the funeral.

Details will also be published in the next newsletter

Our deepest sympathies to his granddaughter Mrs Coles and her family.
