Tom Wingham DFC (Amer)
I had an email last night informing me that our Life President Tom Wingham died peacefully yesterday in his nursing home at Northamptonshire after a short illness.
Tom was much loved and respected by all who came in contact with him. He was Secretary of the 102 (Ceylon) Squadron Association almost 20 years and has left us an important legacy in the membership, the newsletter and, more importantly, in the true friends he made in Pocklington and Barmby Moor. He always went out of his way to help anybody with Bomber Command research.
We had planned to visit Tom next week on our way to Suffolk. We wanted to tell him about the very successful and memorable reunion weekend we had last week in Pocklington. I hoped he would have approved. Elaine and I were very pleased to visit Tom at his nursing home over the last few years, where they looked after him so well.
I feel very privileged to have followed him as Secretary and to benefit from the Squadron Association he left us all.
