Does anyone know if I need to seek prior permission from the gliding club to access the memorial or is it possible to just 'turn up'
Thanks
Neil

The Wolds Gliding Club is very welcoming of visitors and the memorial is right next to the clubhouse. They only get twitchy if you stray onto the airstrip - for obvious reasons! The old service area is now an industrial park but there are still a few old RAF buildings surviving, the most impressive of which are the hangars. Bill.

Just turn up. You can camp if you want! Me and Chris stayed in rooms within the club house complex for £20 a room (twin beds). I reccomend these to anyone visiting - book in advance though, because they are actually for the glider guys, but they happily rent them out if none of them have booked them. Good bar too!
Bill.
P.S. the walls are full of artefacts and aircrew artwork.

Was thinking of Remebrance day but then realised I will not be in the area - so probably going to a 6 group airfield instead

I've not talked to mum and dad yet but there is a walk up a mountain the lake district called Great Gable, that has on it a memorial to all the people who died from the lakes area.
I've only done the walk once, but to see 500+ people on top of a mountain all at the same time, just to give thanks to those who lost their lives during both wars is something to behold.
However, if a bunch of people want to meet up at Pockington this year then that might change everything.
