W1153 DY-H took off from Topcliffe at 11 pm on the 26th July 1942 bound for Hamburg.

Forced down by heavy Flak over Hamburg and while crossing the coast, at about 100 feet, near Emden, a burst of light Flak hit the port outer, which burst into flames. Ditched approximately 8 km off the coast in very shallow water. as the survivors waded ashore, they saw another Halifax pass overhead and crash just beyond their own.
This proved to be W1142 pilotedd by Sgt JM Wilson.


Of those killed, two are buried in Sage War Cemetery, and Sgt Mander are buried in Delfzijl General Cemetery.

Sgt J.Fryett was interned in Camps 8B/344/L3, PoW No.25090 with Sgt R.W.Kinsey, PoW No.25071.

Sgt W.H.Golding in Camps 8B/344, PoW No.25087.
